One of the world’s largest producers of spirits and beers, Diageo, has announced the creation of the world’s first ever 100% plastic free paper-based spirits bottle.
The latest innovation is to debut in 2021 Johnie Walker – the world’s leading Scotch whisky.
The paper-based spirits bottle is entirely made from sustainably sourced wood and will be fully recyclable in standard waste streams.
In a press statement, Diageo noted that “the innovative bottle was a product of a team work with Pilot Lite, a venture management company to launch Pulpex Limited, a new world-leading sustainable packaging technology company.”
“Pulpex has also established a partner consortium of FMCG companies in non-competing categories, including Unilever and PepsiCo” the statement also said.
Diageo’s Chief Sustainability Officer Simon Lowden added: “Innovative solutions and partnerships are critical to driving meaningful progress toward a circular economy.
